On October 6th, 2014 the social initiative “Wear red”supported by the Russian Society of Cardiology, social and educational programme “Life Pulse” and Bayer company came to an end in Moscow. “Wear red” is a part of the huge international 10-year project “Go Red for Women” that our country joined this year.

Traditionally, the Red Dress is a central mark of the project. It is a symbol of anxiety that is caused by the growing of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality all over the world. In Russia this problem is beyond medicine, now it is a really critical social disaster.

This time “Go Red for Women” attracted social media: more than 3000 women followed Facebook, Vkontakte and Instagram profiles of the project and shared more than 1500 photos of themselves wearing red with hashtag  #GoRed_Russia. 11 Russian celebrities, including famous singers, performers, TV stars and actors joined and supported the action. Saying “Yes!” to a healthy heart they made an appearance in red dresses in the theme calendar in order to attract women's attention to the problem. The winner of the competition in social media – lovely Sonya Khudaiberdieva – became the girl of September, month when the World's Heart Day is celebrated.

“Informal nature of this event is really helpful in attracting people's attention to the problem of prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Women more often care about health of the whole family. Because of that, our goal as  medical specialists is to prepare them to make a  right and well-timed choice concerning prevention of cardiovascular diseases”, - shared his thoughts Professor Evgeny Shlyakhto, President of the Russian Society of Cardiology.
